An important note about your campaign pledge gifts

If you have made a pledge to our combined capital campaign~“Embracing Our Mission, Shaping Our Future, Building Our Church”~thank you!  We are very grateful for your support!

Please remember to make your payments directly to the Archdiocese of Baltimore.  Please don’t use the gold “Honoring Our Past” envelope found in your monthly packet of giving envelopes.  Using the gold envelope will result in the gift not being applied to your pledge.

For questions about your pledge, you are welcome to call the Archdiocese Capital Campaign office at 410-547-5476.

Bishop Mitchell Rozanski’s visit to our parish

Notes from the homily of Bishop Mitchell Rozanski on February 12, 2012 (11:15 a.m. Mass) at St. Joseph-on-Carrollton Manor

In his homily, based on the story of the healing of the leper in Mark 1:40‑45, Bishop Rozanski expressed how pleased he was to be present with us and to encourage our parish as we work toward building our new church.  The leper of the Gospel story came to Jesus with great faith, and his faith was rewarded by Jesus as the Great Healer reached out to the leper with a healing touch.  The Bishop encouraged us in our efforts to build our new church, because such growth in our parish is a powerful way for us to reach out to bring others closer to Christ’s healing touch.

Bishop Rozanski spoke about a particular design element of the new church that will allow us to see the steeple of the historic church through the windows above the altar, and he noted that this will help connect us with our ancestors who came before us and who spread the faith by building the stone church in the 1800s.

The Bishop acknowledged that growth is always accompanied by struggles.  He assured us that we are in his prayers and he asked for our prayers for our parish and for him.  He reminded us that our ancestors had a vision for themselves and the future generations, just as we do, o provide comfort and hope and to minister to others about the presence of God.  This attracts others to join us in praising God.

The Bishop thanked Father Frazier for his leadership and his steady hand through this process.  He noted that we have reached 46% of our goal of raising $1.6 million in pledges in the current capital campaign, and he is looking forward to returning to turn a shovel at our groundbreaking.

Please support the Church in Central and Eastern Europe

On Ash Wednesday, we will take up the Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. This Collection supports Catholic organizations that provide food, shelter, medical care, catechesis, and companionship for the lonely in a region still struggling in the aftermath of atheistic Soviet rule. Your donations help to restore the strength of the Church in the region. Please give generously to the Collection, anytime this month. Visit this link to learn more.

Tuition Assistance Available for 2012-13 School Year

If you are making the sacrifice to send your children to Catholic school or are considering Catholic school for the 2012-13 school year, your parish has some news for you!

St. Joseph‑on‑Carrollton Manor parish families may apply for Catholic school tuition assistance for grades K–8.

To qualify, the family must be registered and active stewards in the parish, which includes sharing time and talent and contributing regularly to the general offertory using envelopes or automatic giving. The student’s school must be recognized by a Diocese/Archdiocese but need not be in Frederick County.

Our parish uses a service known as FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment for confidential collection and analysis of financial data, with further analysis and final award decisions made by the Pastor, based on advisement by an impartial committee at the parish.  (The Archdiocese of Baltimore Department of Catholic Schools also has funds available and will review all FACTS applications to award tuition assistance scholarships based on financial need only.)

If your family would like to be considered for tuition assistance from St. Joseph’s, complete a FACTS form at FACTS Tuition Aid, pay the $23 application fee, and supply all required documentation by Wednesday, February 29, 2012. We expect to notify applicants about assistance decisions by the end of March 2012.

Marriage in Maryland – Update

This is from the  Maryland Catholic Conference:

“Supporters of legislation to redefine marriage in Maryland are trying to quickly move it through the General Assembly.  But we are standing strong!

“Did you feel the ground shake on January 30 with the power of 2,000 voices calling for a halt to legislation to redefine marriage in Maryland?  Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Rally for Marriage!  You are making your voices heard and energizing our courageous lawmakers who stand with us.

“The Senate committee has not yet voted, but is expected to vote in favor of the bill (as it did last year) sending it to the full Senate for debate soon.  Last week we issued special CAN alerts to constituents in the districts of the committee members and had flyers distributed to select parishes.

“This Friday (02/10/12), the House of Delegates will hold a joint hearing on the marriage bill.  The Judiciary Committee and the Health & Government Operations Committee together will hear testimony.

“Join us – at home, in your parish or in Annapolis – in prayer at 1:00 pm on Friday.”

Click here for details about this alert.
