St. Joseph-on-Carrollton Manor Catholic Church
Confirmation
|
Definition:
Confirmation is one
of the three sacraments of Christian initiation, wherein the candidate is anointed by the bishop and
therefore receives a special call to serve Christ in closer unity with Him. The
Confirmed Christian is empowered by the Holy Spirit to be a mature soldier of
Christ, boldly living out and standing up for the teachings of the Church. Child Requirements: Any baptized person of high school age can and should receive the sacrament of Confirmation. Explanation of process at St Joseph's: The Confirmation program at St. Joseph's lasts one full year, beginning in November and ending in October. Candidates shall have completed at least one full year of religious education instruction prior to beginning the preparatory year for Confirmation. This year of preparation includes classes, a service project, a report on a Saint, a 2-day retreat, and a letter to the bishop. Each candidate asks a sponsor to mentor him or her through the process. The sponsor and the candidate are both present at the Sacrament of Confirmation, which takes place on a Sunday afternoon Mass with Bishop Francis Malooly in mid-October.
