First Reconciliation and First Eucharist are important times
in your child’s life!
Due to COVID-19, Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) during Mass has been suspended. Please contact the Parish Office for more information.
If your baptized child is at least seven years old and has attended a Faith Formation program or Catholic school last year, we welcome you to enroll them for preparation this year along with their Faith Formation program.
Is my Child Ready to Prepare for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist?
How do I know if my child is eligible to prepare for a sacrament?
A child preparing for Eucharist must be at least seven years of age and be baptized. He or she must have attended a structured Faith Formation program (or Catholic school) the prior year and must currently attend a Faith Formation program or an accredited Catholic School. A child must prepare for Reconciliation prior to preparing for Eucharist.
What if my child is attending a parochial school?
Your son or daughter must prepare for the sacrament with the parish that your family is registered with, not with the school they attend.
What if my child already attends a Faith Formation program, isn’t that good enough?
Archdiocesan guidelines state that preparation for a sacrament is in addition to any regular Faith Formation program.
What if I’m not sure my child is ready to prepare for these sacraments? If you would like to talk about this or any concerns you have, you are welcome to call (301.663.0907, x3012), email the Parish Office, or stop by.
To prepare for these sacraments, families must be registered in our parish and the child must be enrolled in Faith Formation through the parish or be attending Catholic school. Faith Formation classes are required for children preparing for these sacraments. If your child attends Catholic school, there is a place on the registration form to select sacrament preparation only.
Go to our Registration Page to Sign Up for Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Due to Covid-19, the reception of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is suspended.
The fee for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist preparation is $100 for each child. No one will ever be turned away based on inability to pay. Please contact the Parish Office to learn more.
Prior to our First Reconciliation service, there is a mandatory retreat. Information on the next retreat is TBD.
Preparation for First Eucharist includes learning that the bread and wine truly become Jesus – His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity! Your children will become familiar with the parts of the Mass, learn about the Last Supper, and get to know St. Tarcisius and Blessed Imelda, the patrons of First Holy Communicants.
Families may choose for their child to have First Eucharist at our group Mass or during one of our regular weekend Masses during the Easter season. Prior to receiving First Eucharist, there is a mandatory retreat. Information on the next retreat is TBD. The First Communion group Mass will be on TBD.
The Archdiocese of Baltimore and St. Joseph-on-Carrollton Manor is committed to providing everyone, especially our children and youth, with a safe and healthy environment. Learn more on our Child and Youth Protection page.
