Christian Stewardship 2016

As we develop true Christian stewardship at St. Joseph’s, we will continue to fulfill our mission of sharing the Gospel of Jesus with the people we encounter. Please prayerfully consider how God is calling you to be a steward of His gifts. We will help you through homilies, guidance in the bulletin and on our website, and in other ways so that together we make stewardship a way of life.

News and Notes

18Sep16 – This weekend we are holding our annual Stewardship of Treasure pledge at each Mass. We hope you have had time to review the financial materials mailed to you and to prayerfully discern how your financial pledge will show thanks for the gifts God has given you.

Even if you have not yet decided, it is never too late to seek God’s wisdom. If you are not sure on how God is calling you to make a pledge, you may be inspired by the witness given by parishioners Kathy and Karl Noah, who shared their story about responding to the call of stewardship.  If you missed it, you can read it on this page. See “Homilies and Talks,” above.

Also, if you wish to discuss your giving with Father Frazier, or a member of the Stewardship ministry, please contact us at the office.

If you didn’t receive the planning packet at your home, please contact Caitlin VanSant at caitlin@sjcmmd.org.

We invite you to turn in your completed card in the collection baskets at Mass this weekend

11Sep16 – This past week, all registered parishioners should have received a letter from Father Frazier along with a personal giving statement, a parish financial report, and a pledge card to make an offertory commitment. If you didn’t receive this packet, please contact Caitlin VanSant at caitlin@sjcmmd.org.

Today we heard parishioners Kathy and Karl Noah share their story about responding to the call of stewardship. If you missed it, you can read it here. See “Homilies and Talks,” above.

Next weekend is Pledge Weekend. In the week ahead, please review the financial materials mailed to you and prayerfully discern how your financial pledge will show thanks for the gifts God has given you. Remember to bring your completed card to Mass next weekend and put it in the collection basket. We will offer a special prayer of thanksgiving for all offerings and pledges.

Do you have questions about our Christian Stewardship program? Ministry representatives will be available today to answer your questions. Look for them in the narthex after the 4:30pm Mass or at Holy Grounds after either Sunday Mass.

04Sep16 – This week, we will send each registered family a letter explaining the remaining portion of our treasure campaign. The letter will also contain three important documents:

  1. a report showing your financial contributions to our parish for the first six months of the year;
  2. a parish stewardship report for the fiscal year (July 2015-June 2016) that shows parish income and expenses as well as the major accomplishments we achieved because of your gifts of time, talent, and treasure;
  3. a financial pledge card with instructions to help you decide your financial support for our parish. Please take the time to pray and discern how your pledge will show your thanks for all the gifts God has given to you.

At all Masses next weekend, two parishioners will share their personal story about the challenges they’ve faced to financially support the church. It is very possible that you may be able to relate to their experiences.

28Aug16 – Last week, Deacon Greg spoke in his homily about the opportunities we have as a parish family to share our gifts and meet the financial challenges that we are facing. Our series on Christian Stewardship continues now with lessons on stewardship of treasure. We’ll be mailing information to you early next month in anticipation of our pledge commitment weekend September 17-18, and you can find updates in the bulletin and on our website. Thank you for your generosity to our beloved parish!

21Aug16 – This weekend we introduce the final phase of our Christian Stewardship program to teach about sharing our treasure.

Deacon Greg’s homily reminds us about the importance of financially supporting our parish, especially now as we face significant financial challenges.

To learn how more about our financial situation and how your support will allow us to continue uninterrupted in our mission, please see the insert in today’s bulletin, which includes a review of the presentation made at our Masses earlier this month.

Please join in praying that this third element of our stewardship program, just like the third leg of a stool, will provide the necessary support and stability for our parish operations. For the full text of Deacon Greg’s homily, see above under Homilies and Talks.

12Jun16 – Recently, all registered parishioners should have received a letter from Father Frazier, along with a yeartodate financial summary and a brochure on what stewardship is from a Catholic perspective. If you didn’t receive it, please contact Caitlin VanSant at cvansant@sjcmmd.org

Our message of Christian Stewardship will continue throughout the year. We will continue to provide weekly articles in the Stewardship Corner. Also, whenever the Sunday readings allow, the homilies will reiterate the importance of stewardship in becoming true disciples of Christ. Finally, our annual Stewardship of Treasure appeal will be held in September.

01May16It’s Commitment Weekend!

…an opportunity for parishioners to commit to share time and talent in thanksgiving for God’s generous gifts. We are truly grateful for everyone who commits to this journey to become a better Disciple of Christ. If you may have forgotten your card, you are welcome to bring it to the parish office this week. We’ll also conduct a follow-up by mail to ensure all parishioners have an opportunity to join us on this stewardship journey.

24Apr16 – Last week, we mailed Father Frazier’s second letter about Stewardship, along with our brand-new Guide to Parish Ministries, and a commitment card for giving time (in prayer and sacraments) and talent (through ministry involvement) to all 990 registered families. If you didn’t receive the mailing, please contact Caitlin VanSant at cvansant@sjcmmd.org or visit our website to find the materials.

If you have questions about how the new Guide to Parish Ministries can be used to find where your talents fit within our ministries, please contact Mary Jane Ewing at mje520@aol.com.

Next weekend (April 30 & May 1) is Commitment Sunday. At all Masses, we’ll collect commitment cards for time and talent in a special ceremony, as a way to thank everyone for their offering. Please remember to bring your completed commitment cards to Mass next weekend.

17Apr16 – This weekend, parishioners Burke and Christine Squires are sharing their story about how important it is for them to share their time and talent with the Church. If you missed their inspirational message, we invite you to read it on our website.

This coming week, we’ll mail our registered families a new letter from Father Frazier about Christian Stewardship along with our new Guide to Parish Ministries, which can guide and inspire you to enrich your life as a disciple of Christ. — you’ll hear more about it next weekend. Father’s letter will also include a commitment card so you can tell us how you want to give time (in prayer and sacraments) and talent (through ministry involvement). We’ll collect your completed commitment cards during our Masses on April 30 and May 1.

Next weekend, friendly faces from the stewardship ministry will be happy to answer your questions and talk with you about Christian Stewardship. Look for them in the narthex after 4:30pm Mass or at Holy Grounds on Sunday.
